The veterinary technician/veterinary assistant is the veterinarian’s primary medical support. They assist the doctor throughout the examination, diagnosis and treatment phases; more advanced technicians also assist with dental and surgical cases. They have a very significant role in communicating with and educating clients about the importance of veterinary care. Some of the many job duties include:
- Accurate medical record entries
- Client communication regarding recommended services
- Hospitalized patient care
- Anesthesia monitoring and surgical/dental assisting
- Prepares laboratory samples and submits for testing
- Pharmacology; application and client education
- Maintains hospital cleanliness
- Patient restraint
