Orthopedic Surgery
At Prescott Animal Hospital, we are here to help your pet feel their best. Our experienced team provides specialized orthopedic surgeries to treat a variety of injuries and conditions that affect your pet’s bones and joints. We’re committed to reducing pain, improving mobility, and helping your pet live a happier, healthier life.
We offer the following surgeries to care for your pet:
Cranial Cruciate Ligament Rupture: Lateral Extracapsular Repair
This surgery repairs a torn cranial cruciate ligament (similar to the ACL in humans), which connects the femur (thigh bone) to the tibia (shin bone) in your pet’s knee. A strong suture is placed outside the joint to stabilize the knee, helping your pet move comfortably again.
Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO)
TPLO surgery is another way to fix a torn cranial cruciate ligament. By adjusting the angle of the tibial plateau (the top of the shin bone), this procedure removes the need for the ligament entirely. This creates a stable knee and allows your pet to regain full use of their leg.
Patella Luxation
If your pet’s kneecap (patella) slips out of place, it can cause pain and difficulty walking. This surgery repositions the kneecap and may include deepening the groove in the femur where it sits. Stabilizing the joint keeps the kneecap in place and relieves discomfort.
Femoral Head and Neck Ostectomy (FHO)
For pets with severe hip problems like arthritis or hip dysplasia, this surgery removes the head and neck of the femur (the ball of the hip joint). By removing the damaged part of the joint, the body creates a false joint, allowing your pet to move without pain.
Fracture Repair
Broken bones can happen to any pet. We use advanced techniques like plates, pins, and external supports to realign and stabilize the bones. This helps the fracture heal properly and restores your pet’s mobility.
Limb Amputation
When a limb is severely damaged or affected by disease, removing it may be the best option to relieve pain. Our team carefully removes the limb while protecting nearby muscles, nerves, and blood vessels. We approach this surgery with care and compassion, ensuring your pet is comfortable and supported throughout their recovery.
Hip Toggles
Our skilled surgical team is here to provide advanced solutions for your pet’s orthopedic needs, including hip toggles for managing hip dysplasia and luxation. This minimally invasive procedure helps stabilize the hip joint, promoting proper alignment and mobility while reducing discomfort.
Using state-of-the-art techniques and equipment, we ensure your pet receives the highest standard of care, from pre-operative planning to post-operative recovery support. Trust our expertise to help your pet regain an active, pain-free life.
